Meaning, Definition and Types of Democracy
Democracy is a form of government in which the rulers are elected by the people.
Countries under army rule can be called military dictatorships.
Countries ruled by one person, who is wholly set apart from all other members of the state, are called monarchies. In a monarchy, people’s will is not considered in the selection of the ruler.
The two main types of democracy are direct democracy and representative.

The rulers elected by the people make all the major decisions.
Elections offer a choice and fair opportunity to the people to change their existing rulers.
This choice and opportunity is available to all the people on an equal basis.
The exercise of this choice leads to a government limited by the basic rules of the constitution and citizen’s right.
