1) Arrange the following metals in the order in which they displace each other from the solutions of their salts.
Al, Cu, Fe, Mg and Zn
The standard electrode potentials are taken from Table 3.1 of the NCERT text book.
A metal with less standard reduction potential (E°) displaces a metal with higher (Eq) displaces a metal with higher Eq from a solution of its salt. The values of Eq of the given metal are as follows:
EqAl3+ |Al = -1.66 V
EqCu2+ |Cu = 0.34 V
Eq Fe2+ |Fe =-0.44 V
EqMg2+ |Mg =-2.36 V
