Polymers – Solutions
1) What are natural and synthetic polymers? Give two examples of each type.
Solution
Natural polymers: Polymers that are obtained from natural sources like plants and animals are called natural polymers.
Example: Starch, cellulose, protein, natural rubber.
Synthetic polymer: Polymers that are prepared artificially are called synthetic polymers.
Example: Nylon, terylene, PVC , synthetic rubber.
2) Distinguish between the terms homopolymer and copolymer, and give an example of each.
Solution
Homopolymers: Polymers that are obtained from the polymerisation of the same monomeric units are called homopolymers.
