Physical World – Solutions
1] Some of the most profound statements on the nature of science have come from Albert Einstein, one of the greatest scientists of all time. What do you think did Einstein mean when he said: “The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible”?
Solution:
When a layman sees the physical world, presents us as if it cannot be understood. That is, it seems incomprehensible, because he sees wide diversity of things. On continuous study and analysis about the physical world by the scientists, it has been found that the physical phenomena from atomic to astronomical range can be understood in terms of only a few basic concepts. i.e., the physical world becomes comprehensible. This is what is meant by Einstein’s statement made above- “the most incomprehensible thing about the world in that it is comprehensible”
2] “Every great physical theory starts as a heresy and ends as a dogma”. Give some examples from the history of science of the validity of this incise remark.
Solution:
The given statement is true. It can be understood through an example related to the scientist Galileo.
