Measurement and Experimentation – Notes
Least Count Of A Measuring Instrument
All measurable quantities are physical quantities, such as length , mass, time, current and temperature.
The smallest measurement that can be made with a device or an instrument is called the least count.
Vernier Callipers
A vernier callipers is used to measure the length or thickness of an object with great accuracy.
The principle of the vernier callipers: N V.S.D. = (N-1)M.S.D
The least count also called the vernier constant= 1 M.S.D.-1V.
